How does it work?
A residential proxy sits between your device and the site you're accessing. When you configure it, the following events occur:
- Sending a request. Your request to access the site goes through the proxy server instead of being sent directly to the website.
- The IP is substituted. The proxy server accepts your request and hides your original IP address by substituting it with a real residential one before forwarding it on.
- Receiving a response. The web server processes the request and returns the response to the proxy server's IP address, which it considers the request source.
- Data transfer. The proxy server captures the target resource data and forwards it to your device — your real IP address stays hidden.
Because each IP is genuinely assigned to a residential device by an ISP, websites treat the traffic as coming from an ordinary home user, which is what differentiates residential proxies from datacenter ranges known to hosting providers.
