According to Backlinko Google Chrome Statistics, close to 4 billion people use Google Chrome, and perhaps including you. Of course, Chrome is not exactly a private browser, meaning your data is exposed, and the results you see can also be primarily narrowed down to your location only.

This is the reason proxies are very helpful in having a better browsing experience on Chrome. It is almost the default for me to use Chrome with proxies in whatever form.

You also might need to do that because of privacy, search localization, or for any other reason. Now, the problem is knowing the best proxies you can use.

5 Chrome Proxy Litmus Tests

The only way we can know these proxies are indeed good enough for Google Chrome is by subjecting all of them to a good number of tests, such as:

1. Privacy Test: Of course, we all know Incognito is not fully private. Thus, when you use a proxy, the location of your proxy should be what the web sees, and not your actual location. Privacy test ensures your proxy indeed shields your location
2. Localization Test: Some proxies can promise you cities like Hague, but rather deliver Amsterdam. The promised location has to be what was intended, and nothing else.
3. Connection Test: Using a proxy shouldn’t necessarily reduce your internet speed. The best Chrome proxies don’t bother you.

Ways to Use Proxies in Google Chrome

The most popular idea among even developers is interacting with Chrome or Chromium through proxies in their codebase, or empowering their AI agents with proxies.

However, that can be unnecessarily complex and unsuitable for many occasions. Hence, we will go over a good number of simply ways to use proxies in Chrome:

• VPN

This is the most obvious means of protecting yourself on the web or setting your web results to get localized results. There are a good number of VPNs, such as WindScribe and TunnelBear.

Even though they mostly come with their own proxies by the maintainers, you can also configure them with your proxy if that’s what you want.

• Anti-detect Browser

In my experience, there are some use cases you cannot fully enjoy even when you wrap your Chrome profile with proxies.

Instead, you have to use dedicated and isolated anti-detect browsers, as they have far more layers of technical sophistication that is good enough for you to bypass any catch.

A good example I personally use and have installed on my machine is Gologin.

• Chrome Internal Setting

This is the most granular proxy implementation anyone can have on their device. Once you set it, it will reflect on any browser and virtually any activity you carry out on that device.

How do you do that?

• Locate the Settings tab on your machine
• Go under Network and Internet
• Select Manual Proxy Setup
• Fill in your proxy details accordingly

Top 10 Best Proxies for Google Chrome

These are the proxies and best proxy switchers I came across that work well for Chrome:

Floppydata 

Floppydata, in my opinion, is one of the best proxy providers for Google Chrome. For me, my major reason for using proxies is more about anonymity than localization, and Floppydata caters well on that.

Gologin is your go-to proxy for Google Chrome if you want both anonymity and multi-accounting without stress. Think of it as a proxy-based browser where everything has been built just for you.

If you manage different profiles of Upwork, LinkedIn, or Reddit, you never want to get detected, Gologin is the most perfect use case for that.

With its in-built proxies, you can manage multiple profiles without ever getting bothered about bans.

Geonode

The main product Geonode sells now is its web scraping API, even though it sells proxies on the side. Geonode gives a good amount of their information, such as latency and anonymity, upfront.

While I mostly use proxies for privacy, I actually don’t mind a fast one, and this is where Geonode excels. I tested their proxies and they are really good in terms of speed.

By the way, you have to be careful while using free Geonode proxies for Chrome because they are unsafe and your data is at risk.

Webshare 

Webshare is a good option when you are looking for best proxies to use for Google Chrome. The most distinctive quality is how you can have access to premium proxy features with the free plan.

I set up my Webshare proxy credentials at once and it worked. I picked a London IP; my search results got localized and used a detection tool to confirm other websites are indeed seeing my machine as a London device.

Oxylabs

While Oxylabs also gives out free proxies, it is limited to 5 and only limited to the baremetal datacenter ones. This simply means you cannot use the proxies for long if you want to remain anonymous for a long time.

The main flag I noticed was how it wasn’t too easy to use. You copy proxy details on a page, and have to go to your dashboard for username and password.

Decodo

Anyone who has been in the proxy market for a while might be familiar with the name SmartProxy; that was the previous name of Decodo.

Before anything else, I searched G2 to see the current rating of Decodo, and found that it has 4.6/5, which is not bad. But that is not enough, I have to test it out and see for myself.

I got a free San Jose proxy, spinned it up on my machine, and it did show the IP. When I searched for the best hotels around me I was actually served good hotels around San Jose.

However, my actual IP got a DNS leak, when I checked through a detector. Thus, there would have been a detection if I was managing multiple accounts.

BrightData

The first thing you have to know about BrightData is that nothing is free. More particularly, if you want a free proxy, you have to schedule a call, after which you’ll get them, which I find quite absurd.

Anyway, if you have a few cents to spare, you can buy it directly. But one thing is clear, BrightData has been one of the most reputable proxy providers, and they claim their proxies pass through intense regulatory scrutiny to prove their ethical source.

After checking out their proxy, while I wouldn’t be quick to say it is the best, I’d honestly rather say it’s good enough.

FoxyProxy

There are 2 things you have to know about FoxyProxy. The first one is that you can buy proxies from them to use for your browsing experience. However, they don’t have free proxies for you.

The second thing is that you can use them for proxy management, which is the main reason I have it installed on my Chrome. You can get proxies from elsewhere and import or configure it into your FoxyProxy extension.

If you don’t want to use isolated anti-detect browsers for whatever reason, switchers are a good patch. With switchers, you can move swiftly from one IP to another by yourself as you browse Chrome.

Proxy Switcher is one of the best proxy switchers for Chrome. When I tried it, it was actually simple to setup; nothing fancy.

Then as you browse, you can click on your extension to switch as easily as you want.

Proxies have become an integral aspect of how I use browsers, particularly Google Chrome. Of course, I’ve had to experience using completely fake proxies that didn’t work, and that was part of the reason I wrote this blog.

The proxy providers I provided in this blog worked well for my use case. That said, I have to add that you shouldn’t feel too comfortable using free proxies as some might illegally parse your data.

For the best experience, it’s always better to buy proxies, and they don’t cost much anyway.
